About us

Eos Visions is East Africa’s premier facilitator of international educational and professional exchanges. Inspired by a social enterprise approach, we host groups of students and professionals who engage in partnerships, capacity building measures, professional training programs, service-learning activities, study visits or friendship tours.

Our name

‘Eos’ is the name of the Greek Goddess of the Dawn. Mythology has it that she brought light to mortals as well as immortals. We desire to be part of Africa’s new dawn and to create visions that bring light to our international guests as well as the people of the African continent.

Our social enterprise approach

Beyond the ordinary business focus of revenue generation, we aspire to a ‘more-than-profit’ model that adds a strong socio-economic value generation component and pervades every aspect of our work. This way, we strive to contribute to social change by creating opportunities for development in a broad sense, along the lines of ‘development as freedom’, coined by Nobel Prize winning economist Amartya Sen.

Our story

Eos Visions is the brainchild of two friends who met during their studies in Germany. Seasoned travelers and strong supporters of social entrepreneurship models, Dr. Michael Grosspietsch and Michael Hartmann share the desire to seize the immense opportunities that the African continent offers in terms of business-driven socio-economic development, and education and empowerment for guests and hosts alike. Working in East Africa’s travel and development circles since 2003 and 2006 respectively, they developed a unique and inspiring mix of international best-practice and standards, and local knowledge and experience.

With a background in development politics and responsible tourism management, Dr. Michael Grosspietsch has gained a reputation as one of the leading resources on educational travel particularly in the post-conflict settings of Rwanda, Burundi and the eastern DR Congo. While he provides the strategic and visionary leadership that is enriching the lives of Eos Visions’ guests, Michael Hartmann lends his operational knowledge and expertise to the group’s activities. This gradually led to the recognition as the premier facilitator of international educational and professional exchanges in the wider region.

Today, after nine years, the group encompasses operations in all five member countries of the East African Community (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) as well as the eastern parts of the DR Congo.
